A Certificate of Authenticity will accompany this specimen. Here is a beautiful example of a rare fish from the Jurassic, about 160 million years ago, more than 100 million years before the Green River Formation fish at Fossil Lake, Wyoming. It lived in what is now the Sundance Formation (which underlies the Morrison Formation), near Cowley, Big Horn County, northern Wyoming. It is a Hulettia americana, and this specimen is about 3.6 inches in length. Named after Hulett, Wyoming. Very few of these are around, and many of them have repaired splits in the rock. Not this one. It is very nice, with no paint or restoration. It is easy to see its tall, dense, strong overlapping scales. The rock it is on is about 6.1″ by 4.8″. This little fish was an apex predator, which means it was at the top of its food chain, with no natural predators. It preyed on Todiltia and other smaller fish in the area. Likely one of the smallest apex predators in the world! It finally became extinct in the Cretaceous. An excellent addition to a serious fossil collection. We invite you to visit our store.
